I never watched the original MacGyver so I have no nostalgia to compare this reboot to. All I know about the original is the general seeping into pop culture of MacGyver meaning 'fix something in a weird and improvised way' and that the O.G. MacGyver was Richard Dean Anderson and he possibly had a mullet at the time. RDA is Jack O'Neill from SG-1 to me first and foremost anyway. I like the new MacGyver, Lucas Till, from X-Men: First Class. I think possibly his floppy hair is a callback to the mullet and he's obsessed with paperclips and I have no idea how much divergence there is otherwise.

The first couple episodes were kind of rough but it's evened out. I'm willing to give buddy cop (buddy spy) shows a lot of leeway, plus the the Mac-Jack relationship is scientist and military. And this team is so sweet with each other! AND THEY TALK ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS A TRULY SHOCKING AMOUNT. Usually led and encouraged by the Texan, military, 'my job is to punch the bad guys in the face' guy which, as much as I also love military stoicism, is a trope subversion I enjoy. I love Team Dad Jack and all his kids ragging on him for being old but they love him. Also, some of the cold opens are hilarious.

However, I could not care less about sociopath nemesis Murdoc. Please let his storyline go.

I'm also attempting the Black Sails Silverflint Drabble of the Week challenge on tumblr. Proper, exactly 100 word drabbles! I actually wrote something for week 1 but then I saw someone else had used almost the exact same opening and when you're only writing 100 words that's a huge chunk so I didn't post it. But I did do week 2. And week 3 today.
